At the undergraduate level, the Department of Political Science is one of the most popular majors at NC State. Honored as the University’s outstanding teaching department, the department features outstanding classroom teachers and quality research.
The Master of International Studies is a 36 credit-hour, non-thesis, multidisciplinary program with diverse and talented teachers and students. The MIS has an excellent placement record, with 100 percent of its graduates placed within six months in government service, international business, non-profit administration, and higher education administration, among other fields, in organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
Preparing students for leadership posts in governance and public affairs, the Department of Public Administration offers a nationally accredited and ranked Master of Public Administration program and the only Ph.D. in Public Administration in North Carolina. Graduates of the doctoral program are conducting research and teaching at universities across the country. Also, the Department offers Graduate Certificates in Nonprofit Management and Public Policy.
The regionally recognized Public Safety Leadership Initiative advances leadership and innovation in public safety through education, training, research, and technical assistance. Among its programs are the premier Administrative Officers Management Program, a 15 credit-hour, 12 week curriculum that records some 1300 graduates from 13 states and 3 foreign countries.
The Leadership in the Public Sector program provides an on-line Bachelor of Arts degree to non-traditional students with a foundation in the theoretical, analytical and ethical tools needed to be effective leaders in public and nonprofit organizations.
