How to Apply

Degree-Completion Program

To apply for our Bachelor of Arts degree-completion program, you’ll submit a transfer application through NC State’s central admissions office. Our team is available to help answer your admission questions and, if desired, to provide a pre-application assessment.

Application Deadlines

• Fall: Feb. 15. Applications received after Feb. 15 will be considered on a space-available basis.
• Spring: Oct. 1. Applications received after Oct. 1 will be considered on a space-available basis.
• Summer: No application available. If you are accepted for the Fall term, you may request to change your entry date to Summer by emailing Undergraduate Admissions.

Pre-Application Assessments

The LPS program provides unofficial evaluations. We can discuss whether you are currently qualified to enroll or what additional requirements you need to be more competitive. Please note, however, that although we offer a pre-application assessment, the final decision on admission rests with the admissions office at NC State.

If you earned an A.A. or A.S. degree from any North Carolina Community College with a 3.0+ GPA within the past 15 years, you are competitive for admission and do not need a pre-application assessment.

Eligibility

Competitive candidates must have:

• An Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from the past 15 years or have completed about 60 university credit hours of college-level work, including a significant amount of social science courses.
  (A maximum of 72 credit hours can transfer into the LPS program.)
• A 3.0 GPA on your completed approved college-level work. However, emphasis will be placed on the most recent academic coursework completed.
• Completed a college-level English course (4 hours)
• Completed a college-level math course (3 hours)
• Completed a an application form

Note: Admission is competitive. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.

Community College Partnerships

The Leadership in the Public Sector Program has transfer agreements with the Associate Applied Science (AAS) programs in 15 North Carolina Community Colleges. These bilateral partnership agreements provide AAS graduates from selected Public Safety or Criminal
Justice Technology programs with a seamless pathway to transfer into LPS with a minimum of 45 credits. A list of participating community colleges can be accessed via community college partnerships. For specific information about transfer requirements, please contact lps@ncsu.edu or contact the academic advisor at your community college.

Certificate Program

Students pursuing university certificate programs enroll as non-degree studies (NDS) students for the purpose of university registration. Contact the LPS program to enroll in the certificate.

There is no time limit on completion of the certificate; however, if students wish to take a “break” from the certificate program, they must notify the LPS academic advisor. This will allow us to keep track of the number of enrolled certificate students.

Students who complete the certificate may apply for admittance to the B.A. degree-completion program. If a certificate student completes this B.A. degree, then the certificate will be removed from their transcript, as students may not have a certificate or a minor degree in the same major degree.
