About Us

We take a hands-on, all-in approach to tackle the big issues. Our community of researchers, scholars, teachers and students are committed to creating positive change.

At a Glance

Created in 2006, the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) provides a vibrant and innovative platform for understanding, exploring and engaging with issues of leadership and public affairs. Our work stretches from NC State’s Raleigh campus to the halls of the North Carolina General Assembly, the power centers of Washington and decision-making forums across the globe.

Our two academic units — the departments of political science and public administration — offer three undergraduate degrees, three graduate programs and three graduate certificates. SPIA is also home to the Public Safety Leadership Initiative, which offers multiple programs aimed at advancing leadership and innovation in law enforcement.

Our Academic Offerings

Our programs bring a new focus and a new level of energy to the issues and institutions that shape our world. Our course offerings marry theory and practice through teaching, research and real-world application.
