SPIA Celebrates MIS Exchange Students for International Education Month

November is International Education Month, a time to celebrate the value of international students, student exchange programs, and study abroad programs.  NC State’s Master of International Studies (MIS) program welcomes a number of students annually from all over the globe, including Fulbright and graduate exchange students from places like Macedonia, Kenya and Russia, as well as the first student from Ghana.   

This semester the MIS program has four graduate exchange students, three from the University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic, which has a long standing relationship with the MIS program:  Anastasiia Storozhko, Thomas Flechet, and Leslie Etijoro; and Torben Skaaning from the University of Copenhagen.

Anastassiia is originally from Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. When asked what she likes best about the campus, she responded, “Everything! I love campus – how everything is organized – students can dedicate themselves to studying, resting, and playing sports. I love that students wear t-shirts with the NC State logo. It shows how united students are spiritually. Basically, I like that NC State creates really good conditions for studying and success.”

Thomas is from Saint-Etienne, France. “I have always dreamt about studying in the United States, and coming to NC State gave me this opportunity,” said Thomas.  He likes studying at NC State because of the quality classes and campus facilities.

Leslie is originally from Nigeria but lives in the Czech Republic.  He hopes to be a career diplomat upon completing his master’s degree and has appreciated the library resources at NC State.  

Torben is from Copenhagen, Denmark and stated he was attracted to NC State “by the fact that NC State isn’t a stuffy university. I thought it would be a good representation of colleges in the U.S. I also heard there were some great music venues and record stores nearby.”

The MIS program values the insights and experiences that foreign exchange students bring to the learning environment and looks forward to their accomplishments this semester.
