Thank you, 9/11 Day of Service volunteers!

On Tuesday, September 19, 2017 eight PS majors and their advisor/coordinator, Trista Law, participated in the Activate Good 9/11 Evening Commemoration and Service Projects event at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh. Despite threats of hurricane Irma and the ultimate rescheduling of this event they still managed to come together to serve the greater Raleigh community at this annual affair. Together they listened to live music while participating in activities such as:

  • “Fill-the-Truck”. Each volunteer brought nonperishable food items to donate to the Urban Ministries of Wake County food pantry as well as packaged food and personal care items for families in need
  • A beautification project for a local garden in Chapel Hill (Wildwoods Community Farm). Rest assured that NC State was well represented in their artwork since they knew that it would be on display in Tar Heel territory!
  • A service project involving the creation of seed balls for the Conservation Trust of North Carolina

They also wrote letters to our troops thanking them for their service. Finally, they assembled first responder appreciation kits.

Our volunteers were all very grateful for the opportunity to serve the community while having fun in the process.

Special thanks to the PS students that participated in the event (pictured):

For those interested in volunteering in the future, the PS department hopes to provide another service opportunity for students, faculty, and staff on Monday, January 15, 2018 for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Stay tuned for more information!
